I did quite a bit of research on the various organizations that have sponsored child programs and kept coming back to CFCA. There isn't a high-pressure sales pitch on their website, the operation is simply run, and they have an excellent rating regarding usage of donated funds. They also happen to be headquartered in a Guatemalan city that I visited twice in high school. The place, San Lucas Toliman, transformed me in so many ways. Never has my heart been opened to love a place and its people so much.
A few weeks ago we received information on our sponsored friend and tears flowed down my face as I read about her and her family. First of all, her bright smile just makes my day. Her home has a dirt floor and tin roof. She has both parents and two siblings. And now we have the opportunity to get to know her, support her and her family, and provide blessings to them. This is so ridiculously humbling it still brings big fat tears to my eyes.
I am so thankful for organizations like CFCA that are linking people in need with friends around the world.

We have two children from this same organization! I've been meaning to post about them ever since we started and never got around to it-thanks for reminding me! Just wait til you get the letters and hand drawn pictures-so precious!!
I love CFCA as well and have been sponsoring a Guatemalan girl for a few years. I love getting her letters and pictures. I just wish I was better about responding. Thanks for the reminder...I will write her a letter this week! Yeah, I agree...CFCA rocks!
What a wonderful way to give back! I remember when my parents sponsored children when I was younger...I can't remember where they were from. I've always known I'd likely do the same. Thanks for the reminder.
That's awesome! I'll have to look into that.
I should look into that, too. Thanks for that.
Thanks for sharing this. I definitely need to look into it too.
I love CFCA! We have a little one in Guatemala. We chose there b/c we have our sister parish there too and our church takes annual trips. One of these days I really want to go on the mission trip and also meet him. I am so glad you are getting to do this. I love getting my letters!
When I met my husband he was already sponsoring a CFCA child. I volunteered for the organization in Mexico as a single gal and was able to see the beautiful work this organization does. It brings the community together, no child is left out. They also focus on education and prayer and sharing goods among neighbors. Knowing my husband, a single guy, was a sposor of a child from CFCA was one of those things that made us know we were meant to be together. Now, our little guy (Oscar) is a grown man; so we have been given a new child to sponsor! They also have opportunities to sponsor the elderly. It is a great organization! Thanks for spreading the news about CFCA.
