My parents visited this past weekend and they worked like dogs to help us get some projects done around the house. The woman cave is currently on the back burner (we discovered some chipping paint on the windowsill that likely contains lead because of the age) but that still leaves plenty of other projects to do!
The first major project was tackling the wallpaper glue in left in the kitchen. We couldn't decide on a paint color, but at least there is now primer on the walls.
 |
| Kitchen - mid stream of glue removal. Seriously, we scraped and then sanded that crap. |
 |
| Kitchen - now with primer. You can see the sample colors to the right. We didn't choose a single one. I think we are going to end up with a light earthy green... but we'll see. In an ideal world that wall would just go away :) |
The second project was painting our living room of which only half is shown here (it's a weirdly long room).
 |
| Living room before. How depressing... |
 |
Living room after - ahh - much better. What do you think of the absence of the drapes? I really like the look but we need privacy. DH wants the drapes up pronto.

Living room view #2. Couch was protecting Addie's noggin from the stone fireplace. After is below but blogger is goofing up my captions.

And the final project was painting our master bedroom.

Clearly the former owners had a thing for cream - EVERYTHING in this house is off-white and cream (all of the trim, the kitchen and bath tiles, the walls, the curtains, etc). We are so glad to be adding a little color and "life" to this old home. Now I just need to decide on some art for the walls.
I am thankful that my parents are so gosh darn handy and willing to fly out and work all weekend long!

Beautiful colors! So warm and inviting. Man, you guys worked your tails off!
I love the no-drapes look! So much cleaner. What about some nice blinds-the wooden slat kind? then you could put them down in the evenings.
I like it! I agree with Kaitlin, I was going to suggest blinds too. Gives you the option of privacy but if you want the no-drapes look you could always just raise the blinds.
I agree with katilin! Even the fake wood would look nice! ;)
Beautiful and that room is HUGE
